Fashions of the 56th Logie Awards

Another year of Australia’s Logie Awards are done and dusted, but not before fashion bloggers from all around the nation state their opinions on the entertaining and controversial red carpet. Different states of mind are constantly published on the world wide web and none of them are right or wrong, even though us bloggers like to think we are right.

In saying that, who enjoyed the Logies of 2014? It was pretty spectacular if I must say so myself. The actors and actresses of Australia attend the awards to celebrate and recognise talent from all over the nation, but for the actresses, it’s a bit more than that. You can’t forget the fashions of the red carpet of course; the most exciting and most talked-about minutes of the night. Sheer and lace was a popular and obvious trend on the red carpet, which is a place for women to make a statement – mainly good – but occasionally bad.

Let’s review some of the most talked about dresses of the 56th Annual Logie Awards:

Why not begin with the absolutely stunning top model, Jennifer Hawkins. Hours before the awards aired on television, Jennifer had us all waiting on Instagram as she posted sneak peaks of her custom-made Toni Maticevski design. In the end, it was well worth the wait. She went towards a different approach this year with a two piece outfit. The completely white skirt and crop top managed to sustain it’s elegance and class, making Jennifer look absolutely beautiful as always. The plain white was a wise choice as the outfit was simple yet stood out. This was one of my favourite fashions of the red carpet.

Awarded “best-dressed” for this year’s awards was The Project‘s host, Carrie Bickmore. She looked absolutely stunning in her Paolo Sebastian design on the red carpet and was an immediate stand-out. The traditional princess-cut gown was elegant, classy, and managed to give off a modern feel. It was a well-deserved win, as the dress looked simple from afar but the detail was rather intricate on the upper half of the design. The subtle gold gave it utter elegance and the belt around her waist was a perfect way to separate the two different halves of the dress.

Another one of my favourites from the night was this J’Aton Couture design worn by the very beautiful Jessica Marais. The new mum looked utterly breathtaking in this soft and slinky dress. It hugged her body and was perfectly suited to her figure. The long-sleeved gown was as if it were made for her, with it’s intricate design along the wrists, upper body and neck. She made the right decision wearing no jewelry as this design basically has jewels of it’s own. Her dress stood out on the runway and was turning heads alongside her partner James Stewart. With her hair tied back beautifully, it really finished off the look and left her looking elegant, classy and modern.

Wearing a design by one of Australia’s top designers, TV personality Sonia Kruger blended into the red carpet with perfection in her Alex Perry gown. This one-shouldered, carefully detailed dress hugs Sonia’s figure beautifully, making her stand out in the crowd even though the bold red blended with the elegantly famous red carpet. Her hair style was simple and casual, yet it still managed to suit the red carpet and finish off the look perfectly. In an Alex Perry, she was bound to look fabulous. The crowd was blown away by her poise and elegance throughout the evening.

Gold Logie nominee and Offspring star Asher Keddie had a mixture of opinions on her red carpet gown. The J’Aton Couture design was very different and somewhat creative, with an all black leather strip down the front of the dress. I think if the dress didn’t have the sleeves it would have looked much better. She looked beautiful, as every woman on the carpet did, but I wasn’t a huge fan of this design. Her hair would have suited the design in a bun rather than tied back with a messy side fringe. Still a beautiful dress by her designers and she looked rather classy.

The beautiful Jesinta Campbell looked stunningly elegant and well-poised in her Steven Khalil design. The simple, all-white, long-sleeved gown looked utterly sophisticated on the red carpet. Jesinta could have somewhat gotten lost in her long gown of frozen-white, but I think she managed to pull it off with ease. One of my favourite designs of the night, I think she looks absolutely magnificent in her dress and she held herself rather well along the bold red carpet.

This theatrical gown worn by Kat Stewart is a creative and modern design by Toni Maticevski. The dramatic, leg-splitting zipper wins me over with this dress. I wasn’t a huge fan of the puffed material on one shoulder as I think it draws attention away from her beauty and stunning figure. However, she did look beautiful and it’s a very creative and unique design by Toni. Turning heads on her way down the carpet, her dress has had a number of mixed opinions. She still managed to have utter class and elegance.

This figure-hugging design by Leah De Gloria was a perfect fit for news reporter and TV personality Sam Armytage. I absolutely love this dress for the reason that it really flaunts Sam’s beautiful figure. The simple dress looks absolutely stunning on her and I love that it is all black with no glitter or shine. The long-sleeve gown with a mermaid-shaped train is sophisticated, chic and fashionable. Perfectly made for Sam, she looked beautiful among her colleagues in all white dresses. An elegant design by Leah made for a classy and well-poised red carpet walker.

To wrap up an overly great and memorable night at the Logies, Home & Away  star Bonnie Sveen won the nation over with her winning speech after accepting the “Most Popular New Talent” award. Thanking her home state of Tasmania, she made a bold statement about being a healthy-sized woman on television:

“I think it says something really progressive about Australia and about the commercial industry that viewers have so warmly embraced such a natural and healthy, young woman on their screens.”

After speaking openly with pure class, she was quickly applauded of her speech. It was a moment the nation have been raving about since it appeared on all of our televisions and the country was thrilled that she acknowledged her healthy size and her confidence on national television.

The 56th Annual Logie Awards were a total success with Scott Cam taking home the Gold. Performances from John Newman, Tina Arena, Jason Derulo, MKTO, Ed Sheeran and Kylie Minogue were all entertaining and fabulous, making a great finish to another great awards ceremony.
