The Time I Met The Love of My Life

Is there such a thing as one great love? Or do people have more than that? I suppose you could say “we met at just the right time”, or that “fate brought us together”, but I don’t believe in that. I think we stumbled across each other (we literally stumbled across each other at the local bar) simply because we happened to be at the same place at the same time. We locked eyes not long after my 18th birthday last year, and since then we’ve spent every day together, argued like an old couple over the décor in our beautiful new home and gone on so many incredible adventures it’s hard to keep count.

Reminiscing to that one super fun night out on the town as a fresh 18-year-old, partying the night away with my girlfriends in my favourite glittery gold dress, if you told me I would meet someone who would change my life, I would’ve called you a liar. Probably because I was too drunk at the time to believe it, but it happened. One very quick introduction and a chat before my mum had to come and pick me up from the bar (thanks mum) was all it took for him to have a permanent home tucked away in my head.

In the months to follow, somewhere among all the music festivals, the Christmas light looking, the parties, the late night leading into early morning phone calls, the adventures and the inside jokes (steer clear of the grapes from now on, honey), we fell madly and completely in love.

Love (4)

He’s good for me mentally, emotionally and spiritually. He is patient (I’m so annoying), kind, compassionate, reciprocates good energy and exposes me to genuine and unconditional love. If you are lucky enough to find someone who acknowledges the light in you and does everything in their power to protect it and encourage it’s glow, cherish them.

The most intimate thing we can do is allow another human being who you love to see you at your worst – it seems to be that true intimacy happens when nothing is perfect. He’s there for me at 2am when I think the world has come crashing down around me and at 3pm when I’m in love with life and he makes me love it more. We’ve been there to peel each other off the floor in times of sadness and to witness the highest peaks in our lives and watch each other learn and grow from every hurdle.

Never did I think someone could have such an impact on my life. Every night is spent falling asleep together and waking up together (this doesn’t mean I enjoy the 5am alarm but it’s a little easier with someone so good next to you). Weekends, holidays and every other night is still not enough – no time will ever be enough with someone you love so much.

Every single day I have a burst of love explode in my heart. We’ll be laying in bed watching a movie or sitting in the dark talking about our lives, and he’ll do something minuscule like hold my hand or look into my eyes and the amount of love that rushes through my body is close enough to bring me to tears. Is that what ultimate happiness is?

To you, what a darling you are. THANK YOU for giving your heart to me and trusting me with it. It’s precious. THANK YOU for walking beside me and wanting me by your side; for making me smile and for smiling along with me; for being my best friend and the love of my life. THANK YOU for being who you are and for helping me be me – always.

What an exciting future we have to look forward to – me, him, us – all of us. Countless adventures, incredible friends, a happy life and love – all the love.
