One of the most iconic fashion brands in the world has finally paid homage to our beloved F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Growing up watching the show, and still bingeing episodes today, I was as thrilled as Ross when Rachel got off the plane (if you know, you know) to see an entire fashion line being dedicated to the Friends 90’s fashion era.
Just like the stars aligning, the release of Ralph Lauren’s latest collection ties in neatly with the 25th anniversary of Friends, and the whole collection is inspired by the show’s very own Rachel Green, made a 1990’s fashion icon by actress Jennifer Aniston. The collection title, The One Where They All Wear Ralph Lauren, follows the theme of every Friends episode name, for example The One With Unagi or The One Where Ross is Fine (two of my all-time favourites, FYI).
If you’re wanting to look like Rachel Green, I hope you’re ready to spend at least $1,500AUD. But, that’s the price you pay to look like a boss b*tch in plaid skirts, polo neck sweaters and pinstripe suits. Give me my Rachel wardrobe STAT! I have always envied her style, both on and off screen, but there’s just something about the styling in Friends that has always caught my eye and made her one of my favourite characters (who am I kidding, you can’t have favourites here)! From a plain tee with overalls, to the chic, svelte green dress she wears to Ross’ palaeontology function, Rachel managed to be a fashion star all the way from 1994 until 2004, and obviously she didn’t stop there – because here we are, 15 years later, with an entire collection inspired by Rachel Green.
I love that out of all the clothing brands in the world, Ralph Lauren is the one to release this collection. If you’ve never seen the show, Rachel is an Assistant Buyer at Ralph Lauren, so it is truly meant to be that they were inspired by her iconic style and released an entire line dedicated to her.
If I could dream of only one runway show this season, it would be a Ralph Lauren show, decorated as the set of Friends, and watching this collection be modelled down the runway- first, to ‘I’ll Be There For You’ by The Rembrandts (AKA, the Friends theme song) and then the music would change to ‘Smelly Cat’ by the one and only Phoebe Buffay – and if you don’t know what ‘Smelly Cat’ is, then please, do yourself a favour and Google it.
Until next time, my dearest F.R.I.E.N.D.S,
